ARRI ALEXA Mini with a compact and lightweight carbon fiber body with a 4:3 aspect ratio and ARRIRAW complements the ALEXA line of full-size cameras and is particularly suitable for capturing specialized images. The standalone ALEXA Mini can record UHD resolution images with up to 14 stops of dynamic range. The 35mm CMOS sensor has a titanium mount and a 4:3 aspect ratio. The included 4:3 Open Gate and ARRIRAW licenses allow you to record ProRes in multiple widescreen options, as well as in-camera and out-of-camera ARRIRAW capture. Use the pre-installed ARRI Look Library license to quickly apply any of the 87 graded images to your footage.
Control the ALEXA Mini with the wireless remote control, using the MVF-1 viewfinder or viewing the on-board monitor. Its small size is suitable for use with stabilizers, handheld rigs or quadcopters, as well as for shooting with multiple cameras and in confined spaces. The lens mount is interchangeable, opening up a wider choice of lenses such as EF mount lenses. The ALEXA Mini can utilize ARRI AMIRA mounts, which is great for shooters working with both devices.
Image quality, formats and workflow are identical to those offered by other ALEXA models, allowing you to create identical images from different cameras, including in anamorphic mode. Record ProRes or ARRIRAW to an internal CFast card or an external Codex recorder (not included). Up to four ALEXA Mini's can simultaneously record to a single Codex recorder. The Mini's maximum frame rate of 200 fps (ProRes) means you don't have to add a separate camera for high-speed operation.
The ALEXA Mini's built-in lens motor control is a compact feature useful for gyrostabilized and other specialized rigs, eliminating the need for an external control unit. Built-in Wi-Fi connectivity allows iOS or Android devices to be used for remote control. Remote control with the ARRI WCU-4 handheld unit is also possible. The ALEXA Mini offers high quality performance in underwater and other low light environments.
Built-in motorized neutral density filters allow you to respond quickly to changes in ambient light; this internal design also frees up a slot in the matte box for another filter. The ARRI LDS (Lens Data System) function is also built into the ALEXA Mini, allowing your AC to quickly adapt to changing parameters displayed on the control box during shooting.
Using the power and large pixels of the 4:3 ALEV III sensor, the ALEXA Mini records ProRes to UHD 4K images with the dynamic range, skin tones, and realistic colors that ARRI cameras are noted for. Recording in Open Gate and MFX/ARRIRAW formats requires additional downloadable licenses (not included). Looking ahead to future standards, the ALEXA Mini's wide dynamic range makes it suitable for HDR displays, and its 0.75-200fps speed range can be used for the increasingly popular HFR (high frame rate) capture modes.
