RED DIGITAL CINEMA DSMC2 with GEMINI 5K S35 sensor (unified DSMC2 line)

RED DIGITAL CINEMA DSMC2 BRAIN with high-performance raw video recording in a compact camera body with a GEMINI 5K S35 sensor is part of the 2018 DSMC2 unified lineup and is designed to be built the way you want to tell your story in almost any way possible. Because the DSMC2 form factor is standard, accessories from RED and other manufacturers can be easily attached to your camera. Despite having fewer pixels than its HELIUM and MONSTRO brethren, the GEMINI sensor has a cool ace up its sleeve. Using advanced circuitry developed for the aerospace industry, GEMINI can change the native light sensitivity of the sensor. From a practical standpoint, it can operate in both normal and low-light conditions without long shutter speeds or excessive color noise. There are almost limitless lens options available for the DSMC2 system. Although a separate lens mount is required for this camera,

REDCODE RAW is the preferred format for DSMC2 cameras. RED's versatile raw codec uses wavelet compression to reduce data rate while maintaining image rendering without visual loss. This efficient codec can be edited in many available non-linear editing programs without transcoding, although if you prefer a proxy workflow, ProRes or DNx files can be simultaneously recorded to MINI-MAG media. Lowering the recording resolution allows the sensor to capture higher frame rates for impressive slow-motion footage. DSMC2 cameras use cropping across the sensor to record slow motion at lower resolution, requiring wider or smaller lens formats to compensate for the additional cropping. Recording speeds range from 12 fps and up, including 24/25/30/48/50/60 fps and up.

Sensor 5K GEMINI S35

The GEMINI 5K Super35 sensor has two sensitivity modes. Use the standard mode for normal shooting scenarios. Switch to the LOW-LIGHT low light levels for increased sensitivity, but without the increased noise levels typically associated with ISO manipulation.

REDCODE RAW

The cornerstone of RED's workflow is the robust REDCODE RAW file format. Utilizing wavelet compression with ratios ranging from 2:1 to 22:1, REDCODE RAW offers the versatility of raw files without the huge storage requirements of uncompressed image data. Because REDCODE RAW has been around since the days of the RED ONE cinema camera, many common non-linear editing programs, including Adobe Premiere Pro, Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve, Apple Final Cut Pro and Avid Media Composer, can import and edit REDCODE RAW footage without transcoding. Saves production time in the editing suite. Capture speeds range from 12fps and up, including 24/25/30/48/50/60fps and up.

Apple ProRes and Avid DNx formats

For projects requiring proxy files or faster processing times than raw files allow, Apple ProRes or Avid DNx formats can be recorded at 4K and 2K resolution directly to the MINI-MAG's built-in media. Since these debayerized video files can be recorded together with the raw files, no additional time is required for proxy transcoding. Transfer the debayerized files directly into the editing software and start editing.

DSMC2 form factor

Like previous DSMC cameras, RED has developed a modular line of DSMC2 cameras to fit a wide range of production workflows. Smaller and lighter than the original DSMC design, if you strip it down to its BRAIN, you get a high-resolution gimbal workhorse. Similarly, add the DSMC2 modules to the back to get professional I/O connections and battery power. Many other parts of the DSMC2 design are designed to be interchangeable. Swap lens mounts to open up new lens lines. Replace the included standard OLPF (optical low-pass filter) with an alternative sensor-level image visualization. Install an electronic viewfinder with no cables to snag, or use a separately purchased adapter to connect the RED LCD with a LEMO cable. Because the DSMC2 form factor is standardized, any accessories you have for this DSMC2 housing will work with any other DSMC2 housing,

RED DIGITAL CINEMA DSMC2 V-LOCK I/O Expander

RED DSMC2 V-LOCK I/O Expander RED DSMC2 V-LOCK I/O Expander - is more than just a way to power your camera, it provides a variety of input/output connections in addition to a V-Lock mount for your DSMC2 camera. The Expander is made of magnesium, so it is lightweight yet durable. It allows you to power your camera from a battery with the V-Lock mount or an alternative DC power source via cable, and you can set it to automatically boot the camera once power is connected. It has 3G-SDI and HDMI outputs, as well as control and sync outputs.

Built-in USB outputs and additional power outputs allow you to connect accessories and limit the number of splitter blocks and power converters hanging off your camera. Sound is not forgotten by RED, and the Expander has both an analog stereo input and a stereo headphone jack. It is compatible with the WEAPON 8K S35, WEAPON 6K, as well as the EPIC/SCARLET-W and RAVEN.

Automatic loading at power up

The extender has a physical switch that allows the camera to automatically boot up when power is applied. This is a useful feature when the camera is in a hard-to-reach location.

Firmware

Since the V-Lock I/O Expander communicates with your camera and enables electronic signals and video output, you must have firmware version 6.2.17 or later installed on your DSMC2 camera.
The extender simplifies the power and output situation when shooting, and it can be removed if you want your camera to have a smaller profile for sneak, gimbal or drone photography.

RED DIGITAL CINEMA DSMC PL-mount (aluminum)

It's an aluminum mount RED Digital Cinema DSMC PL mount attaches to your DSMC or DSMC2 camera body, providing a lens port compatible with PL lenses for your camera. Dual locking rings secure the lens in the mount, minimizing backlash. The mount features non-drop screws, so you don't have to worry about accidentally dropping a screw into the sensor cavity.

The mount supports electronic communication between the lens and camera, although not all functions may be supported. RED DSMC mounts are designed to be interchangeable without the need for back focus adjustment.

This lens mount is made of aluminum for a balance between weight and strength.

RED DIGITAL CINEMA 4.7-inch LCD touch screen for some DSMC2 RED cameras

RED DIGITAL CINEMA Touch LCD display with a 4.7-inch diagonal, designed for cableless mounting for some DSMC2 RED cameras, has a resolution of 1280 x 720. The LCD design provides a good off-axis view of up to 160°, with 80° left, right, up. , or down, so you don't need to focus directly on the viewfinder to see the optimal image. The LCD features multi-touch control with hard navigation buttons on the side.

With a brightness level of 400 cd/m² and a contrast ratio of 1000:1 for clear images, the RED LCD touchscreen attaches directly to your camera without any cables needed between the LCD and the camera. It can be mounted directly to DSMC2 cameras including the WEAPON 8K S35, WEAPON 6K, EPIC/SCARLET-W, EPIC/SCARLET MX, EPIC/SCARLET DRAGON and RED RAVEN. Built-in mirror and image flip allow inverted monitoring for special applications.

The LCD display is designed to be mounted directly on some cameras for cable-free operation.
When used in conjunction with LEMO's optional collection of DSMC2 adapters, you can mount the DSMC2 display away from the camera body.
A built-in hinge provides up to 240° of tilt angle - 90° forward and 150° backward - allowing the LCD screen on the camera to be folded.
You can use the optional DSMC2 LEMO B adapter to install the LCD display on RED EPIC or RED SCARLET cameras.

RED DIGITAL CINEMA RED MINI-MAG (480 GB)

This one RED DIGITAL CINEMA RED MINI-MAG has a 480GB capacity, is compatible with most RED cameras (SSD module may be required), and can achieve recording speeds of up to 300MB/s on some cameras. The RED MINI-MAG can support simultaneous R3D and Apple ProRes recording when used with DSMC2 camera systems.

The RED MINI-MAG is encased in an aluminum case and has a compact form factor.
Compatible with DSMC2 camera systems, the RED MINI-MAG requires a RED MINI-MAG Side SSD Module for use with the RED EPIC or SCARLET BRAIN. The RED MINI-MAG system requires your DSMC to have firmware version 5.1.34 or later installed.

Sleek, compact and rugged, this unit takes up little desk space and its small size gives you more options for housing it in enclosures. It includes one USB Type-C and USB Type-C to Type-A cable each.
