RED KOMODO 6K - Camera Rental

RED Company has taken new steps by releasing a KOMODO 6K digital movie camera. by combining legendary image quality and color science in an ultra-compact all-in-one design that weighs only 1 kilogram and measures approximately 10 x 10 x 10 centimeters. Key to achieving this goal was the use of a Canon RF lens mount and a 19.9-megapixel KOMODO Super35 CMOS sensor with global shutter technology. This sensor can produce images with a dynamic range of 16+ steps and eliminates sliding shutter artifacts. Users can also rest assured. they get RED quality with the ability to record up to 6K at 40fps, 5K at 48fps, 4K at 60fps and 2K at 120fps in REDCODE RAW format for incredible flexibility in post-processing.

Revolutionary for RED was the creation of an extremely compact universal design with KOMODO. This means you can simply insert a CFast 2.0 card into the media slot and you're ready to run at data transfer rates of up to 280MB/s. The top 2.9-inch 1440 x 1440 resolution touchscreen makes it easy to set up and monitor footage, or you can use the RED Control system to use your iOS or Android device to preview and customize. This is possible thanks to the built-in 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi. Wired control via the USB Type-C port and optional adapters is also possible.

Utilizing the Canon RF lens mount allows KOMODO to be extremely compact, yet still provide compatibility with a wide range of lenses through the use of optional adapters. The mount initially supports mechanical RF lenses and mechanical EF lenses through the included adapter. Using the optional EF-RF mount electronic adapters, KOMODO will even support Canon electronic lenses with EF mount and unlock additional features such as autofocus.

First for RED is the ability to use phase-detection autofocus (PDAF) with compatible lenses. This includes adapted Canon EF mount lenses used with a separately purchased electronically linked EF-to-RF adapter. Phase detection systems are known for their speed of distance measurement and comparison and should provide a reliable and accurate system for video production. In addition, the touch screen can be used to quickly change focus and select subjects.

Returning to image quality, KOMODO promises to be one of the best among REDs thanks to its ability to capture up to 6K at 40 frames per second using the powerful 16-bit REDCODE RAW format. RED has simplified compression options, giving users a choice between HQ, MQ and LQ, each varying compression from low to high respectively. Having these options allows users to choose the best option for each shoot, as well as prioritize data rate or image quality. REDCODE RAW is supported for 5K up to 48fps, 4K up to 60fps and 2K up to 120fps and provides the most flexibility possible in post-processing. Those who want to use a more traditional format can record initially in Apple ProRes 422 HQ and standard 422 with DCI 4K up to 60fps or DCI 2K up to 120fps.

As a complete all-in-one camera solution, the KOMODO has many essential ports and connections. This includes built-in stereo microphones and 3.5mm audio input, genlock/timecode/GPIO/RS232 support via a 9-pin EXT port, and a DC power input. The 12G-SDI port will support up to DCI 4K at 60fps in 10-bit 4:2:2 quality for specialized monitoring solutions. The back of the camera also features two slots for Canon BP-9xx batteries, which are hot-swappable for virtually unlimited recording in the field.

The RED KOMODO 6K offers an extremely compact form factor that sacrifices nothing in terms of image quality. This base model includes the KOMODO 6K, a 45W AC adapter, a Mini World Travel adapter kit and a Canon RF-EF mechanical adapter.
